KalGard's Zane Smith WKA Daytona KartWeek | After a very successful 2009 season in the WKA Manufacturer’s Cup series with multiple wins, the team headed to Daytona to kick off the 2010 season. Though it was not a typical Florida week with frigid temperatures, the racing action was fierce and tight with Top Karts at the front.
Zane Smith made quite the impression in his first attempt at a full season in the Man. Cup series. Zane also debuted the brand new 2010 Cadet chassis, which features a new chassis design for the first time in a few years. Zane also ran the 2010 102 frame used for Komet and Yamaha sportsman classes. Day one in Cadet Zane just nearly missed the win by .074 of a second finishing second, but would go one position better in Final 2 taking home the win. This was the first time the 2010 Cadet had seen the track, an impressive debut for Zane and the new chassis. Zane also finished fourth on day one in KPP Sportsman. Ryan Raffa had a rough weekend qualifying well all weekend, but had trouble in the finals scoring a few top tens. Watch for Ryan to return to the front at South Bend.
In the Junior categories, the team welcomed Garrett and Jake Johnston to the team. Both drivers found good success in their first junior National event. Garrett had an impressive run Saturday finishing sixth in Jr. Lite and the two both finishing inside the top fifteen in Jr. Heavy. Raquel Martinez scored two top ten finishes, but was disappointed with the results. Look for Raquel to bounce back at the first Gatorz race in Phoenix coming up in just a few weeks.
2010 karts are now available including the all new Cadet which has already proven its speed. Please visit http://www.grandproducts.com to find your nearest dealer. While the Man. Cup series takes a break over the next couple months the team will be in full swing competing in the CKI Florida Cup and the Gatorz Challenge of Americas.
